Love/Hate Fashion: The Humble Birkenstock

Every so often something comes back into fashion that sparks debates as to whether or not people should wear them. This season the Birkenstock, or variations of it, is definitely at the center of this debate.

Personally, I like Birkenstocks from a practical perspective: I believe they would be a lot more comfortable and foot-friendly than flip-flops or sandals. From an aesthetic perspective, I’m not entirely convinced.

I’m aware that this type of attire is the norm in some European countries, however living in Australia I’ve noticed that some items that are so acceptable overseas are either disregarded here or, are only embraced if they’re hot on social media and are being worn by famous people.

Nonetheless, I believe the good old Birkenstock shoe is here to stay for a little while longer. Here are some suggestions on how to rock Birkenstocks.
